Iron Infusion

What Is Iron Deficiency?

Iron deficiency can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, low energy, mental “fog,” and even anaemia. Maintaining healthy iron levels is especially important for individuals with certain heart conditions. The causes of iron deficiency vary and may require further investigation, often through procedures like gastroscopy or colonoscopy, which we can arrange if needed. While some people manage iron deficiency with oral supplements, many experience side effects, like constipation, or find that the improvement is too slow.

How Do Iron Infusions Work?

Iron infusions offer a quick and effective alternative for restoring iron levels in the body, bypassing the issues commonly associated with oral and intramuscular options. Intramuscular injections can be painful, cause skin discoloration, and require multiple treatments. In contrast, iron infusions provide a convenient, efficient way to boost iron levels, typically with minimal side effects. This new formulation has a low risk of adverse reactions, allowing most people to receive the infusion comfortably and safely.

What Are the Effects?

While most people experience no issues with iron infusions, a few mild side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headaches, or muscle aches, may occur. Some may notice slight irritation at the cannula site, lasting a few days. In rare cases (less than 1% of patients), if the cannula dislodges, the skin around the injection site may be permanently discoloured. Serious reactions are extremely rare.
